Getting a token

A camera token is issued when you create the camera in Prusa Connect or in the Prusa app.

Prusa Connect

  1. Open your printer in Prusa Connect.
  2. Go to Camera.
  3. Choose Add new camera with type other camera.
  4. Copy the camera token.

Prusa app

Follow the same flow in the Prusa app: Printer, Camera, Add new wifi camera (wifi can be fake), then copy the camera token.

Registration flow

Token format

The token is exactly 20 characters long and contains only [A-Za-z0-9]. Example shape: T0nSPU2v05v0pJeKYFYV.

You send it in the Token header on every request. See authentication.

Registration window

The first authenticated call must arrive within 15 minutes of creating the camera. This applies to the first call to any of GET /v1/camera-info, PUT /v1/camera-info and PUT /v1/snapshot.

After 15 minutes an unused token stops working. Requests get a 403 with the same message as for an invalid token, and the camera disappears. To recover, create a new camera and use its new token.

Printer-attached cameras

Printer-attached registration is meant for internal cameras connected directly to the printer by cable. It is not the recommended way to register a camera: for any other camera, use the steps above.

The printer registers such a camera itself through the Prusa Connect API. See Register camera to Connect by printer (POST /p/camera).

The Token header is the printer's LINK token

In that request, the Token header is not a camera token. It is the printer's LINK token, which you can find in the printer's details in Prusa Connect. The request body carries the camera's fingerprint. The new camera token comes back in the Token response header. Use that camera token for /v1/camera-info and /v1/snapshot.

Keep the token secret

Anyone who has both the token and the fingerprint can upload as your camera.
